Disturbing character posters and eerie teaser trailers, a zodiac killer inspired secret code printed in The Seattle Times and a number you can ring to receive creepy, whispered threats from star Nicolas Cage - all of these things have formed the ambitious marketing campaign for Oz Perkins’ Longlegs, an indie horror that many are already calling the scariest film you’ll see this year.

Set in the 1990s, Longlegs follows FBI agent Lee Harker (played by scream queen Maika Monroe) as she’s assigned to an unsolved case involving the Satanic serial killer known as Longlegs (Cage). As more occult evidence is uncovered, Harker discovers a personal link to the killer and must work fast to prevent another murder.

Despite it’s clever marketing campaign, it’s a feat that the large hype generated around Longlegs still keeps the audience guessing. Taking inspiration from classic serial killer horrors such as Seven and The Silence of the Lambs, Longlegs takes an even darker turn, twisting itself into something even more disturbing that has to be seen to be believed.
