A Different Man
Released in the UK by Universal on 4 October 2024.
In Aaron Schimberg’s mind-bending new satire, Marvel star Sebastian Stan stars as Edward, an aspiring actor with neurofibromatosis living in New York. After he undergoes a radical medical procedure to drastically transform his appearance and get his ‘dream face’, this dream soon turns into a nightmare, as he loses out on the role he was born to play and becomes obsessed with reclaiming what was lost.
“EXTRAORDINARY… A BRILLIANT MINDF*CK OF A MOVIE”

As well as The Worst Person in the World lead Renate Reinsve, A Different Man also stars Croydon’s own Adam Pearson, who suffers from neurofibromatosis in real life. Pearson’s character Oswald - who is also an aspiring actor - serves as Edward’s foil, with Edward resenting how confident and charismatic Oswald is despite his disfigurement. Making his acting debut in 2013 in Jonathan Glazer’s Under the Skin, Pearson took this role in order to shed a light on the portrayal of disability in popular culture. In an interview with The Guardian, he expressed how often films present people with disfigurements as problems that need fixing. In A Different Man however, Edward is sent into a tailspin when he receives a cure. “People always think of the tragedy of going from being non-disabled to disabled,” says Pearson. “And no one really talks about it going the other way”.
Sharp, smart and extremely relevant, A Different Man is a must-watch that will leave you thinking long-after the credits have rolled.
Don’t Miss!
