La Chimera

Released in UK by Curzon on 1 May 2024.

Everyone’s searching for something. For Arthur, the tortured protagonist of Alice Rohrwacher’s enthralling fantasy-drama La Chimera, it’s the soul of his lost love, but also something more - something beyond life itself.

La Chimera is marvellous — right up to its most magical ending

This fascination with the after-life forms the basis of La Chimera, a captivating journey around 1980s Tuscany starring Josh O’Connor (The Crown, Challengers) as archaeologist turned gangster Arthur who teams up with an eclectic group of tombaroli (tomb-raiders) to steal and sell Etruscan antiquities buried in ancient graves. Both literally and metaphorically, Arthur yearns to go underground, both as a way to make his fortune and to reconnect (in some way) to his deceased fiancée Beniamina. Indeed, the Etruscans saw life after death as more meaningful than life itself.

A dreamy meditation on the way the past seeps into the present, La Chimera is as thoughtful as it is visually stunning, and is one you need to watch on the big screen.

Don’t Miss!
